Vera Colon

A Puerto Rican born and raised in a blended biracial family in the New York City area and now living in Tampa, Vera grew up reading books featuring strong female characters. She understood Jo's pain in Little Women when Amy threw her manuscript into the fire. She marveled at the harsh conditions suffered by Laura Ingalls and her family and opened her mind to the prepubescent adventures of Margaret Simon and Sally J. Freedman.

 

As she grew older, Vera became inspired by the brilliant works of Amy Tan, Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, and Isabel Allende. Vera writes stories featuring the issues and concepts that affect the daily lives of Hispanic people living in America, especially women.
